FIRST Network Node
The State of Washington Department of Ecology wanted to implement a Network Node that would perform automated exchanges of FRS data with EPA’s Central Data Exchange (CDX). Windsor Solutions helped Ecology evaluate a variety of approaches, including vendor turnkey solutions, in terms of technology maturity and fit with Ecology’s existing infrastructure and future data exchange requirements.
Ecology opted to have Windsor custom develop a Web-services Node using the .NET Framework v1.1 and Visual Studio .NET 2003. The resulting Node is fully compliant with Network Exchange Protocol Version 1.1, Network Node Functional Specification Version 1.1, and the Network Security Guidelines and Recommendations.
RESULTS THAT REWARD
Windsor worked closely with CDX staff to validate both the Washington and CDX Nodes. This joint effort resulted in the first Node to automatically interchange XML-formatted data with EPA based on the Network Exchange specifications. Windsor’s input also helped CDX identify some necessary revisions for Version 1.1 of the Functional Specification and Protocols. Windsor also developed an administration sub-system to expedite management and deployment of future Exchange Network data flows at Ecology.
This Washington Node was a precursor to the widely used OPENNODE2 application.
